S and S Poultry

      It all started with "Oscar" many years ago. One day we looked out the kitchen window and under a bird feeder there was a rooster. It was a mixed barnyard rooster, nothing special and even from a distance we noticed he had been freshly dubbed so we figured he was an escaped fighting cock. At first we couldn't get close but over the next few days by feeding him he was roosting on the back porch and eating from your hand. We searched and found him a few hens, built a small pen out back and found the joys of raising poultry. Over time we and Oscar prospered, some acreage was purchased and cleared by ourselves for our farmstead, it was a long slow process until we could move onto the property.

Along the way we aquired some ducks and rabbits then came the turkeys, last but not least we just had to have peafowl and guinea fowl. Our birds are all raised in natural settings in large pens set back into the woods, they have plenty of room to forage and move around. We aren't "production breeders" trying to cash in or make a name for ourselves, our main goal is to preserve rare breeds and improve our stock.
