S and S Poultry
We are a small poultry farm located in Eastern North Carolina.
We raise 9 different breeds of standard size chickens, Buff Orpington, Blue Cochins, Dark
Cornish, Cuckoo Marans, Copper Black Marans, Speckled Sussex, Rhode Island Red,
Ameraucanas and Mottled Java. We offer hatching eggs, in season, chicks and
started chickens when available.
Pick-up only on our farm for live birds, we do not ship live birds.
Buff Orpingtons are a large dual-purpose chicken. Roosters weight over 9lbs and hens
weight over 6lbs. Ours lay a large to jumbo sized brown egg year round. They will
hatch their eggs and make great mothers.
Also, they are very gentle and the color of light spun gold.
Hatching eggs are $15.00 per dozen or $8.00 per 1/2 dozen plus shipping cost.
Dark Cornish are a meat type chicken. Roosters weigh over 10lbs and hens weigh
over 7lbs. They lay a medium size light brown egg. They have short, tight feathers
in beautiful shades of black and dark brown. They have the thickest, most compact
bodies of any breed. The Cornish have a very broad, deep, prominent breast.

Cuckoo Marans are a large chicken best known for laying very dark brown eggs.
We raise the clean leg variety of the Fitch line. They are very calm and docile and make a
fine table bird. The Cuckoos are also sex-linked meaning at hatch you can tell the males
from the females.

Speckled Sussex are a medium size chicken with a very unique color. They are dark
brown with white spots or spangles. They have a quiet disposition and lay a medium
size light brown egg. Our hens have made good mothers and sitters.
Hatching eggs are $20.00 per dozen or $10.00 per 1/2 dozen plus shipping cost.
Rhode Island Reds are a large dual-purpose chicken. They are a deep red color with
yellow legs and skin. They are capable of excellent egg production and lay a large size
egg. Rooster are over 9 pounds and hens are 7 pounds.

Cochins are a large feather footed chicken. They are very friendly and are excellent
mothers. They make great broody hens also. We have a flock of standard/giant
Cochins in Blue. Blue Cochins are the result of heterozgous laced blue color, which
does not breed true. When black birds are mated with splash birds, all blue offsprings are
produced. When blue males are crossed with blue females
then you get a 25/25/50 mix of colors. When splash is mated with splash you get
splash offsprings.

Ameraucanas are unusual that they lay beautiful blue and green eggs. We raise non-standard
color Ameraucanas that are very colorful. They are excellent layers and very friendly.
Roosters are 6 pounds and hens around 5 pounds. Their nickname is Easter Eggers because
of the natural color of their eggs. They have beards and muffs but not ear tuffs.
Coming in 2010 we will have limited numbers of Copper Black Marans and Mottled Java chickens!
