S and S Poultry

We are a small poultry farm located in Eastern North Carolina.

We raise 6 different varieties of turkeys, Royal Palm, Bourbon Red, Midget White, White Holland,

Standard Bronze and Beltsville Small White Turkeys. We offer hatching eggs, poults and

started turkeys on a limited basis.  Pick-up only on our farm for live birds, we do not ship live birds.

The Royal Palm is a medium sized turkey and one of the few “original” breeds that

wasn’t heavily used for meat production as they were developed along ornamental lines.

The toms are about 20 pounds and the hens 14 pounds. They are listed as watch on the

ALBC's conservation list.  As you can see from the photo the strutting tom is very striking.

Hatching eggs are $32.00 a dozen or $16.00 a 1/2 dozen plus shipping cost.

Beltsville Small White was originally bred at the USDA research station in Beltsville MD., in the

1930's as a smaller meat type turkey. In 1952 there were over 15 million being sold in

supermarkets, by 1955 they were almost gone due to poor breeding practices and

development of the Broad Breasted White which reached a higher market weight in a

shorter period of time. The original flock was moved to the USDA research station in

Ames, Iowa.  From there a few individuals were able to obtain stock and start flocks in

private hands. The BSW is a very hardy and disease resistant turkey; the poults are strong

and very stocky when they hatch.  The toms are about 20 pounds and hens about 12

pounds. They are listed as critical on the ALBC's conservation list.

Hatching eggs are $40.00 a dozen or $20.00 a 1/2 dozen plus shipping cost.

Bourbon Red has a rich dark red to brown plumage and white flight and tail feathers.

They became popular in the early 1900's and were promoted as the turkey from Bourbon

County, Kentucky.  They were accepted into the APA Standard in 1909. We find the

Bourbons to be the most curious and friendly of our turkey breeds.   The toms are about

33 pounds and the hens about 18 pounds. They are listed as watch on the ALBC's

conservation list.

Hatching eggs are $32.00 a dozen or $16.00 a 1/2 dozen plus shipping cost.

Midget White are the smallest of the breeds and were also developed as a small meat turkey

in the 1950's  however they are smaller and not as broad breasted as the Beltsville’s.

They are a friendly turkey and the hens can fly rather well due to their light weight.

The toms are about 16 pounds and the hens about 8 pounds. They are listed as critical on the

ALBC's conservation list.

Hatching eggs are $35.00 a dozen or $18.00 a 1/2 dozen plus shipping cost.

White Holland are one of the largest heritage breeds, they are much heavier boned than the

other breeds.  The toms are about 35 pounds and hens about 20 pounds. They are listed as

threatened on the ALBC's conservation list.

Hatching eggs are $32.00 a dozen or $16.00 a 1/2 dozen plus shipping cost.

Standard Bronze are the largest of the heritage breeds.  They are beautifully

colored with a  coppery-bronze colored metallic sheen.  The toms are about

36 pounds and the hens about 20 pounds.  They are listed as watch on the ALBC's

conservation list.  The Bronze pictured below are around 6 months old.  We will

update when they reach full size.

Hatching eggs are $32 per dozen and $16 per half dozen plus shipping cost
